A selfie of Cyrus with Kaitlynn Carter on August 9 began rumors of romance. That very same month, Carter split from husband Brody Jenner and Cyrus separated from Hemsworth. Entertainment Tonight published photos of the pair kissing on a yacht during an Italy vacation. Carter was also by Cyrus’s side on the MTV VMAs, where she gave an emotional rendition of her song âSlide Away.â
On September 21, after a few month together, People reported that Cyrus and Carter had split, but were âstill friends.â Carter later reflected on the romance in a November 2019 essay for ELLE, writing, “While it was short-lived, Iâll remain eternally grateful to my most up-to-date relationship for opening my eyes to this unexplored a part of myself, and for uplifting a latest level of self-discovery and wonder in any respect the chances of life. Iâve been forced to get to know myself in a far deeper way than ever before, and never just when it comes to my sexual preferences. Iâve also been forced to reckon with who I’m as an individual.â
