Kylie Jenner’s reign as Instagram’s most followed woman has come to an end for now. Celebrity news fan account PopFaction noted this morning that Selena Gomez, formerly the platform’s most followed woman, exceeded Jenner’s follower count. While at 10 A.M. EST this morning, Jenner actually still had a slight edge, Gomez surpassed her because the day went on.
At 6:25 P.M. EST, Gomez officially led with 380,644,778 followers. Jenner, meanwhile, is close behind with 380,425,729 followers.

While Gomez has been more lively on Instagram recently, she spoke to Vanity Fair earlier this month about how she actually only has TikTok on her phone. She removed Instagram years ago and has her assistant post content for her to her page.
Of why she decided to personally step back from most social media platforms, Gomez said, āI never got the possibility to go to an actual highschool. The world was my highschool for the longest time, and I began getting inundated with information that I didnāt want. I went through a tough time in a breakup and I didnāt need to see any of the [feedback]ānot necessarily concerning the relationship, however the opinions of me versus [someone] else. Thereād be hundreds of very nice comments, but my mind goes straight to the mean one.ā
āPeople can call me ugly or silly and Iām like, Whatever. But these people get detailed,ā she continued. āThey write paragraphs which might be so specific and mean. I might always be crying. I always had anxietyā¦I couldnāt do it anymore. It was a waste of my time.ā
āThe one thing I actually have on my phone is TikTok because I find it to be slightly less hostile,ā she said. āThere are wonderful things about social mediaāconnecting with fans, seeing how completely happy and excited they’re and their stories. But normally thatās filtered through [for me now]. I created a system. Every little thing I do I send to my assistant who posts them. So far as comments, my team will put together a number of things which might be encouraging.ā
