“This doesn’t occur to people like me often,” Harry Styles told Grammys audiences upon receiving tonight’s Album of the 12 months award. Analysts are still furiously debating what, precisely, the bedazzled young artist meant by this confounding statement, but regardless—Styles, and the remaining of us, were shocked after the artist beat out Beyoncé, Bad Bunny, Lizzo, and more to clinch the evening’s biggest honor.
The “As It Was” singer climbed the neon-lit stage as a torrent of (mostly rage-induced) reactions poured onto social media, with essentially the most furious indictments coming from Beyoncé fans, who’ve amassed ample evidence that the Grammys have done nothing but disrespect their reigning queen for years. (Remember what happened with Lemonade?)

“This does not occur to people like me often” – @Harry_Styles. We beg to differ, Harry. Mediocre white men get glamourized, rewarded and awarded over exceptionally talented, amazing Black women like @Beyonce all day, on daily basis. Living proof is that this AOTY win. #GRAMMYs

For a moment, forget Styles’ charm and bravado, his shining Gucci suits and dulcet tones; there’s a reason the singer himself seemed just as shocked by the upset because the audience. (He began his speech with a straightforward but effective declaration: “Shit.”) Beyoncé is essentially the most awarded artist in Grammys history. And yet she has not one single Album of the 12 months award. Something about that math isn’t adding up; and fans were all too desirous to show the algebra.

Wow! They really know how you can spread those awards around on the Grammys!

Perhaps it really was one big mistake, one other La La Land/Moonlight debacle for the ages. But, really, are we going to provide the Recording Academy that much credit? After Beck beat Beyoncé in 2015? We’re well past ballot mishaps, my friends.

Having a alternative between Beyonce or Bad Bunny and in some way giving it to Harry Styles is an incredible method to unite African Americans, the overall African diaspora, Hispanics, and Latinos.

i saw two grammy voters quoted in that variety article who said they didn’t vote for beyoncé because she all the time wins and each time she does something recent “it’s an enormous event” and it really pisses me off. people just don’t love seeing Black women win “an excessive amount of.” it’s nasty.

Harold’s Home is technically well-produced but ultimately not even a fraction of the merit within the the composition and execution of Renaissance—an explosion of ebullient joy, artistic and emotional freedom, and queer happiness. Still, there was not less than one person present on the ceremony was desirous to watch Styles overtake the competition: The so-called grandma superfan who presented him with the award. (Admittedly, they did a really cute little shuffle-dance after they hugged.)

Obsessive about the Harry Styles super fan. The way in which she could barely croak out his name in surprise, the little dance he did when he ran to her, their sweet moment together on stage. Fans make music what it’s, and that was a fun reminder. #Grammys pic.twitter.com/mKm6mhkgKp

However the overarching taste of the evening’s results was bitter. The words “ROBBED” and “DURING BLACK HISTORY MONTH,” each in all caps, trended on Twitter mere minutes after the Album of the 12 months announcement. And when asked if he, too, expected a Beyoncé win tonight, Styles replied: “You never know with these items. I don’t think you may have a look at any of the nominees and never feel like they’re deserving. After I have a look at this category, it’s all individuals who have inspired me at different times, so it’s not like—y’know, you’d understand anyone winning. And yeah, I’m really grateful that they selected us.”
There’s excellent news for individuals who will still be seething when the morning comes: Beyoncé is happening tour, and her tickets are officially on presale. Ticketmaster higher be ready this time.
