Angelina Jolie Alleges Brad Pitt Abused Her and Their Children in Countersuit

Angelina Jolie has shared latest details alleging her ex-husband Brad Pitt abused her and their children in a cross-complaint filed today in Los Angeles in connection to the couple’s legal case over ownership of their once-shared French winery ChĆ¢teau Miraval, the Latest York Times and Page Six report. Jolie and Pitt share six children: Maddox, 21; Pax, 18; Zahara, 17; Shiloh, 16; and 14-year-old twins Vivienne and Knox.

The actress’ lawyers wrote that Jolie’s attempts to sell her share of ChĆ¢teau Miraval to Pitt fell apart after Pitt demanded she sign ā€œa nondisclosure agreement that will have contractually prohibited her from speaking outside of court about Pitt’s physical and emotional abuse of her and their children,ā€ the Times cited from the filing it obtained.

Jolie’s latest filing detailed the couple’s alleged altercation during a plane ride on Sept. 14, 2016 that ultimately led Jolie to file for divorce from Pitt days after, on Sept. 20, 2016.

The Latest York Times reports her suit said the incident began when Pitt accused her of being ā€œtoo deferentialā€ to their children after which yelled at her in the lavatory.

ā€œPitt grabbed Jolie by the top and shook her, after which grabbed her shoulders and shook her again before pushing her into the lavatory wall,ā€ the filing stated, per the Latest York Times. ā€œPitt then punched the ceiling of the plane quite a few times, prompting Jolie to go away the lavatory.ā€

The Latest York Times added that ā€œwhen one in every of the youngsters got here to Jolie’s defense, the court papers said, Pitt lunged at the kid, prompting her to grab him from behind. Amid the altercation, Pitt ā€˜choked one in every of the youngsters and struck one other within the face,’ the suit said.ā€ The kids weren’t named within the suit.

Lawyers for Pitt didn’t reply to the Latest York Times’ request for comment. Following the alleged incident, the FBI investigated Pitt for child abuse and ultimately cleared Pitt of any charges in November 2016.

While Pitt didn’t issue a press release himself addressing his reported misconduct, in a Sept. 22, 2016 report, a source near Pitt told People, ā€œHe takes the matter very seriously and says he didn’t commit any abuse of his children. It’s unlucky that individuals involved are continuing to present him within the worst possible light.ā€

Pitt’s rep directed media on the time to his original statement following Jolie’s divorce filing, which read: ā€œI’m very saddened by this, but what matters most now’s the wellbeing of our youngsters. I kindly ask the press to present them the space they deserve during this difficult time.ā€

Today’s latest counter-filing comes after multiple outlets, including NBC News and Rolling Stone, reported in August that Jolie was ā€œJane Doeā€ in a suit filed against the FBI for withholding documents about its investigation of the plane altercation. In those documents, Doe detailed a Sept. 14, 2016 incident that resembles the one Jolie’s team is describing now.

Within the August lawsuit, obtained by ELLE.com, attorneys Amanda Kramer and Molly Doggett assert on behalf of Doe, ā€œa victim of the assault herself,ā€ that the non-release of documents to her pertaining to the investigation ā€œhas hampered, and continues to hamper, her efforts to acquire for her children essential ongoing care and medical attention, and has further harmed the youngsters within the family law system.ā€

NBC News, Entertainment Tonight, People, and Rolling Stone also obtained copies of an FBI report detailing Doe’s, who the outlets report is Jolie’s, testimony concerning the flight. Details included acknowledgment of the beer pouring and Pitt’s alleged bathroom altercation with Jolie.

Page Six reported that Jolie submitted photos of her alleged injuries to the FBI for the report, together with journals from the youngsters.

In the brand new countersuit today, Jolie’s lawyers wrote that Pitt’s decision to sue her for selling her stakes within the winery without his permission prompted her to take this motion. ā€œShe has gone to great lengths to attempt to shield their children from reliving the pain Pitt inflicted on the family that day,ā€ Jolie’s legal representation wrote, via the Latest York Times. ā€œBut when Pitt filed this lawsuit in search of to reassert control over Jolie’s financial life and compel her to rejoin her ex-husband as a frozen-out business partner, Pitt forced Jolie to publicly defend herself on these issues for the primary time.ā€
